This year I recieved 3 gorgeous, wildly different Anne of Green Gables stories, that are all wildly different from each other, perfect in their on specific way, perfectly catered to my taste, and are somehow channeling L.M. from beyond the grave.

AND there's another one in the madness collection! ♥

The most perfect missing scene:

Patty's Place on a Wintery Friday Evening (1331 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Anne of Green Gables - L. M. Montgomery
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Gilbert Blythe/Anne Shirley, Anne Shirley & Philippa Gordon
Characters: Anne Shirley, Aunt Jamesina (Anne of Green Gables), Gilbert Blythe, Philippa Gordon, Stella Maynard, Priscilla Grant
Additional Tags: Winter, Missing Scene
Summary:

It's been snowing all day and the women of Patty's Place don't expect anyone to call even though Friday is their usual "at home" evening. They're wrong. This is just a little missing scene.

The most perfect canon divergence AU:

all the stars align (2024 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Anne of Green Gables - L. M. Montgomery
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Gilbert Blythe/Anne Shirley
Characters: Anne Shirley, Gilbert Blythe, Diana Barry
Additional Tags: Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence, What-If, 5 Things, Yuletide, Getting Together, Time Skips, Love Confessions
Summary:

Gilbert never called Anne “Carrots”, and she never broke the slate over his head.

(aka a canon-divergent “what-if” story, told through five snapshots.)

The most perfect IN SPAAAAACE AU:

Moonstone and Muslin (1665 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Anne of Green Gables - L. M. Montgomery
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Anne Shirley

Summary:

Sometimes, things that sound as though they ought to be wonderful turn out to be terribly disappointing. Being sent to live in a satellite is definitely one of those things.

Is it okay to harvest plot ideas/inspiration for stories from existing media?

How about in a fic exchange? I mean, on the one hand: everything has already been done at least once, but on the other ... fandom IME can be weirdly passionate about never using someone else's ideas ever. (Does it count if it's an idea from a commercial source? If it's so high-level that only people who'd seen the original would recognize the remake if the newer version doesn't hang a lampshade on it, like the salami-slicing plot in Office Space?)

I was going to yulenom the Legend of Sinbad (Dreamworks) but didn't because I am a dope.

So far only one of my nominations (Old Kingdom - Sabriel, Touchstone, Ellimere I, Terciel) has been accepted, with the others in limbo awaiting attention. This year's goal: get a draft out before December, spend the rest of the time writing Galaxy Rangers treats for the five people in the fandom, some of whom might also be participating. Other noms include The Matrix (Movies) (Hilariously no one nominated Neo - I nommed Trinity, Morpheous, Switch and Apoc; I'm going to rewatch this weekend I think.)

(I need to find two other fandoms I want just as much as GR & Old Kingdom.)

Hands up who's participating/excited/really glad it's fall? Also useful to me: Two 4-hour plane rides and a computer that currently has better than adequate battery life, although I may see if I can snag an external batt before I fly home.

Everyone doing NaNoWriMo: Fully 1/3 - that's 10 days - of November is comprised of weekend! (I have carefully made sure that I am spending 0 weekends with my family; flying in on Monday and out on Friday, the week of Thanksgiving.)

There is a universe in my head that conceptually is all [personal profile] staranise, from this post, the ember of which I am trying to keep aglow until November happens. Big plans, big plans.

Work is hectic as ever but it is nice to have stuff to do.

Yuletide Friending Meme | My Thread

It's back to work today, assuming it hasn't been cancelled. Am checking the emails now to make sure.

I also have the "Praise the Lord" themesong stuck in my head, which was an earworm when I was five and is an earworm now.

Nope, work in on despite blizzard - I'm going to start out now and maybe try and leave early today.

AND it's [profile] fandom_snowflake time! this is PLEASING to my FACE and I'm going to try and do exciting things with it this next two weeks!

I wrote 5 stories in 5 fandoms this year, guessed by no one. (Really, guys? :P)

My Assignment: Vocation (2200w, Gen, G, Snake character study) for [archiveofourown.org profile] edonohana in Dreamsnake by Vonda McIntyre.

This one I'm ridiculously proud of, because it was a BEARS fandom for me. My flist knows I matched on Pern, wrote a bunch, couldn't finish and edit before deadline and produced this one's rough draft over two crazy days before the default without penalty deadline as a "just in case". While I was only about halfway through the book -- luckily, I'm getting better at guessing and extrapolating so I only needed a few tweaks. So it was my first time reading it, my first time writing it, and my first time writing in a book fandom in a long damned time.

Wacky things I did throughout the writing process: Watched all available episodes of Oddities on netflix, as well as a bunch of murder documentaries, so that I could get the feel of organ preservation and autoposies. Also, I spent about a month converting all my purchases into Pernese marks.

(The original fic, still titled "Dragonsnoun" and is now part of my [community profile] getyourwordsout and will hopefully be done by next yuletide.)

My Pinch-Hit: Hope in the Bottom of the Box. (6500w, Gen/Preship, G Abbie Mills & Ichabod Crane, roadtrip/casefic) in Sleepy Hollow (TV) for [archiveofourown.org profile] whatbecomesofyou.

I picked this one up about 3 seconds after it hit the PH list, because I really regretted not signing up for Sleepy Hollow this year - and I'm so glad I did, because her favorite listed tropes are also my favorite listed tropes, and because Abbie is an amazingly fun POV to write in. The working summary was "Nothing bad happens and no one dies."

Wacky things I did in the writing process: Set the McGuffin in Saskatchewan specifically so I could learn how to spell Saskatchewan. It is also a fucking miracle that I'm not on a do-not-fly list after the googling I had to do to get this story written.

My Other Pinch Hit: Breadcrumbs (1400w, Gen, G, Gretel character study) in Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters for [archiveofourown.org profile] oddegg.

I'd written the first draft of this back in January, immediately after the movie, and never posted -- so when this request came up on the PH list on the 24th, I tentatively claimed it and reread and adapted until it was sufficiently weird. I was really worried that oddegg might not like it, but they did, and I'm bweeful over that because the polish-and-post of an existing story is not something I've ever done before.

Wacky things I did while writing this story: Skimming fairy tales for tone absorption.

Treat: Evolution's Biggest* Hits! (1000w Gen, G, Evolution & Manager crackfic) in WTF Evolution (tumblr) for [archiveofourown.org profile] laughing_pheonix.

This one was the surprise! Hit of my works this year, and unsurprisingly - I had promised myself that if I finished my stories in time I could write a WTF Evolution treat. It is mostly about prehistoric megafauna, and who doesn't love prehistoric megafauna?

Wacky things I did while writing this story: I wrote each section as a reward for finishing either parts of Hope in the Bottom of the Box or editing my assigned stories/PHs.

Treat: Better than Monkeys (1000w, Gen, G, Scarlett & Karma worldbuilding/character study) in Temple Run 2 for [archiveofourown.org profile] aramley.

I'd had the opening line hanging out in my head since seeing their request, and the rest sortof ... followed, when I realized I had a few spare hours yet on Christmas Eve.

Wacky things I did while writing this story: Played a lot of Temple Run 2, at last unlocking that fucking santa hat.

HELP

Dec. 3rd, 2013 07:57 am

Can someone translate "Slightly rusty, but passable" into ancient greek for me?

It is important.
boosette_archive: (Default)
Mine consists of:

1x 22 minute Cartoon - 65 episodes (full canon not available legally until recently)
1x 22 minute sitcom - 200+ episodes
1x 22 minute drama - 26 episodes (canon not available legally)
1x 1-page 4-panel comic
1x Book series - 1000+ pages total
1x Childrens' book series - 6x books at 30-50 large print, illustrated pages each

So there is a 15-minute fandom in there, but only because I genuinely want to receive a story for that canon. In the past, I've included well-known films, single-volume books, another series from the same publisher as the childrens' series, music videos, and youtube videos.

(Yes, I am responsible Octopus Steals My Camera as a yuletide fandom two years ago.)

Thematically, this year is all about mid-century historical fiction (1940-1980), with only two fandoms falling outside that timeframe.

I'm offering a lot of 15-minute fandoms this year, mostly in my bucketlist. (Oh, WTF Evolution. I kinda hope I match on you A LOT.)

10/24/13 - edited: Likes (sometimes section) Dislikes (HTML fail, addition - character death), Gargoyles (canon clarification)

Dear Yulewriter,

I want to thank you, first and foremost, for writing me a story at all. You're awesome, and I promise I'm laid back and easy to please. Write a story that you want to write; write a story that makes you happy, too. Basically as long as you don't deliberately use yuletide for trolling (ie, writing from the DO NOT WANT list on purpose), you're golden.

things I like )

a girl and her plesiosaur (comic), american girls - molly, gargoyles (tv), gentleman bastard sequence, the green hornet (tv), that '70s show )

things I do not like )

Love,

[livejournal.com profile] boosette

PS:
I'm asking for all of these fandoms because I love them, basically; you almost cannot go wrong with canon compliance. If you want to ask me a thing do not hesitate to ask me the thing through the mods, and I will do my best to answer thoughtfully and honestly. I promise I don't bite!

So Nominations Are Open:

This year we get up to six requests

And I have nominated as of this morning: om nom )

I'm counting on the hivemind to give me Orange Is The New Black fic, and I haven't seen Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries so I can't request that, but I will have done by the time december rolls around.

Other things I'm considering asking for: Gargoyles: IDK WHO. But I do love the entire Maza family SO MUCH. SO MUUUUCH. (A lie: I love EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS SHOW. [livejournal.com profile] taraljc and I just got to the world tour. And I am so happy that the show ships Eliza/Goliath as hard as I do.)

Codex Seraphinianus, because it's such a weird book, and because I would get a chance to distribute the *cough* copy I acquired. (It's being rereleased on amazon, with a pre-order price of $75. I am totes preordering when I get paid 10/14.)
But: Worldbuilding, Alligator people, Rainbow Bridge City Denizens, Maze Dam Bridge Denizens.

Here is my fandoms I am nomming post at yuletide: http://yuletide.livejournal.com/1162757.html?thread=15822085&style=mine#t15822085

I have one openish slot, and I don't know exactly what I'm requesting yet, so.
