Ooooh, so: Wingfic is not something I've ever read much or written, because I mostly find it weird and puzzling -- like ... Gabriel Garcia Marquez did it on one end of the sci-fi/magical realism spectrum and Sharon Shinn did it on the other end, and now everyone else can go home? The not-writing is as much about I have enough trouble choreographing 4 limbs already, without adding wings in the mix, to wanna go there.

!!! I've forgotten about the existence of A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings until right now, oh my god that's a really different approach to wingfic, and you kind of blew my mind just now. <3

(The Archangel approach is what fandom usually does, wherein there's kinda-angelic classes, and they have more power than humans, or less, or basically it's all just a kind of X-Men with molting. But the singular miracle and people's response to it is not something I've seen in fic, and I'd like to.)

I went through an extensive apocafic phase when I was in college -- it was my favorite genre, I wrote it a lot and I read it more, and now I'm done. I still have a fondness for it in my heart, because the best of it puts Our Heroes into difficult situations where they have to make difficult decisions and finding joy despite huge amounts of pain is/was a massive bulletproof kink for me, but ... I'm a little done with it. Also, ain't no fandom does apocafic like Stargate fandom does apocafic.

I like bodyswap more in visual media than in written media, TBH! Most of the fun is in seeing the actors playing the other characters' roles, because you can always tell when they're having a lot of fun with it.

Whereas with fiction, it's often either out of character, or really difficult to keep the image of one character's body speaking with another character's voice, if it's in character.

Wanna to hear your thoughts on First Time Together! Because ... because reasons.

90% of the time I get my first time fix from conventionally published romance novels now, because I know exactly what I'm getting into and that the quality will usually be at least "proofread" ... but this might be because I've gotten a lot more discerning in my fic-reading these days? Like, I want note perfect voices in third person simple past, not too baroque, not too hemingway-sparse. It's a tall order for folks who are doing it for love with close to no chance of ever making it a career.

Also, characterization: I have a really hard time willingly suspending my disbelief over what I consider out-of-character-by-premise* ships than I do over AND THEY WERE INSTANTLY ATTRACTED TO ONE ANOTHER AND WANTED TO BONE in romance novels.
